Did you know there are over 85 sparkling wine producers in San Luis Obispo County? And we have 11 of them right here in Paso’s Downtown Wine District! Many are such small production that they aren’t available year-round, so make sure to ask at the winery when you visit.
Here are the top 11 sparkling wines in downtown Paso’s Downtown Wine District:
- Bushong Vintage Co. makes sparkling Gewürztraminer in the classic Champagne method with grapes are from the Adelaida district. The wine is aged en tirage, meaning on the yeast and lees (grape matter that is leftover from fermentation). This Bubbly has a fuller body plus yeasty aromas, which blends with the fun, aperitif style of the Gewürztraminer grape.
- CaliPaso strives to be an authentic Italian experience in Paso Robles, including bringing in Prosecco DOC from Italy. DOC means Denominazione di Origine Controllata or designation of controlled origin, and is the second-highest quality level of Prosecco in Italy – Friuli Venezia Giulia and Veneto. So you know it’s good.
- Derby Wine Estates is located a bit further out from the walkable downtown, in a historic Almond Storage and Growers building, renovated by the Derbys. The Derby Sparkling Brut Rosé of Pinot Noir is made in the classic Champagne method, and is a nutty, complex sparkling wine.
- Hayseed & Housdon/Metronome is a new label by Hayseed & Housdon’s right-hand woman, Holli, and this sparkling wine is her vintner debut. Metronome Track 1 is a traditional-method Brut Cuvée, and can be purchased in the Hayseed & Housdon tasting room on Railroad, just behind the main row of Paso downtown businesses. Metronome will help raise awareness and funds for a worthy nonprofit: VH1 Save The Music. 🎶
